This study examines how simple home products made of hardwoods can prevent carbon from being emitted into the atmosphere. In other words, every house with wood chairs, tables and furnishing becomes a carbon storage facility. Dovetail Partners calculated carbon storage over various periods by analyzing two common hardwood products: tables and floors. The results, though small for individual products, may be a significant source of carbon emissions at scale. Architects, designers and furniture manufacturers can use this methodology to validate carbon reduction claims for their own projects.
