This guide is intended to introduce communities to the purpose and need of an urban forest management plan. An urban forest management plan is an action plan; it gives public works agencies detailed information, recommendations, and resources needed to effectively and proactively manage public trees. Six component of a plan are discussed and prioritized for the benefit of managers who are just beginning a program and for managers who have an established program and are looking to improve it.
