In 2023, Mayor Greenberg created the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability (OS), to elevate sustainability within Louisville Metro Government and integrate it across Metro’s agencies and programs. From 2019 to 2022, Sustainability was housed in the Office of Advanced Planning, where it worked to incorporate sustainability into all the city’s long-range planning efforts.

This is a good example of a sustainability plan that incorporates urban forest management into its action recommendations. Sustain Louisville is divided into six focus areas: energy, environment, transportation, economy, community and engagement. Planners identified goals and strategies by evaluating national benchmarks.
