The Fire Adapted Community program envisions a collaborative, iterative approach where residents, communities, and governments work to identify and implement needed wildfire risk reduction actions over time, as resources, threats, and opportunities change. The Nature Conservancy and the US Forest Service have created a network through which communities can learn from each other about how to live, grow and thrive in an increasingly fire-prone landscape.

“To live better with fire, we need to adapt to fire. That’s where the concept of fire adapted communities comes into play. Local people learning and working together is the foundation of fire adaptation. Learning and working together builds community capacity and resilience.” — Fire Adapted Communities Network

Washington State offers a comprehensive outreach, education and training program that promotes community-wide action to mitigate wildfire.
